What It is
The scope of authority is the specific set of powers, and their limits, that a power of attorney grants to the agent — what the agent may do, for which subject matter, and any conditions or exclusions.
What it is not
It is not open-ended by default; powers not written into the document are not granted, and a broad scope is not automatically safer.
Where it is used
Receiving parties read the scope closely to confirm the exact act required — for example ‘sell’ versus ‘manage’ — is included before they accept the POA.
