Ejari renewal is the re-registration of a tenancy on the Ejari system when a lease is renewed for a further term. It keeps the official record current so the tenancy continues to be recognised for visas, utilities and other services.

Where you’ll see it

You’ll see Ejari renewal each time a tenancy rolls over for another year. The renewed contract is registered afresh, producing an updated certificate that reflects the new term and any agreed change in rent.

Why it matters

Visa renewals and continued utility accounts often depend on a current Ejari. Letting it lapse can interrupt those services, so renewing the registration in step with the lease keeps everything connected to the tenancy valid.

What it is not

Renewal is not the same as Ejari cancellation, which closes a tenancy that has ended. It is also not automatic a renewed lease must be re-registered for the record to update.

Example

A tenant and landlord agree to extend the lease for another year. They register the renewed contract on Ejari, and the tenant uses the updated certificate to renew their residence visa.

How we define terms

Every definition on glossary.ae follows a controlled structure: what the term is, what it is not, when it is used, and where you will see it. Read our editorial methodology to understand how terms are selected, reviewed, and maintained.
