Tawtheeq is Abu Dhabi’s system for registering tenancy contracts, giving rental agreements official standing in the emirate. It is, broadly, Abu Dhabi’s counterpart to Dubai’s Ejari system.
Where you’ll see it
You’ll use Tawtheeq to register a tenancy for a property in Abu Dhabi. A registered Tawtheeq contract is typically needed for utilities, residence processes and to deal with rental matters in the emirate.
Why it matters
In Abu Dhabi, Tawtheeq not Ejari is the relevant tenancy registration. Tenants and landlords need to use the correct emirate’s system; a Dubai Ejari does not register an Abu Dhabi tenancy and vice versa.
What it is not
Tawtheeq is not Dubai’s Ejari. It is the Abu Dhabi equivalent. It is also not the tenancy contract itself; it is the registration of that contract in Abu Dhabi.
Example
A tenant renting in Abu Dhabi registers their contract through Tawtheeq, then uses it to set up services the Abu Dhabi equivalent of registering a Dubai tenancy on Ejari.
